#Up2Us 2015 Winners announced

Safer Internet Day

Loreto Kilkenny win the #Up2Us Safer Internet Day 2015 competition

Webwise is delighted to announce that the winner of the second annual #Up2Us Safer Internet Day competition is Loreto Secondary School, Kilkenny. The aim of the competition is to encourage students to promote internet safety and make their school a more inclusive place and the staff and students at Loreto Kilkenny did just that!

Interest in the topic was sparked by the #Up2Us Social Media Roadshow with Beat 102-103. As part of the #Up2Us Roadshow, presenters from Beat 102-103 visited 25 schools across the southeast. The presenters gave 40 minute presentations on internet safety and then encouraged schools to get involved in the #Up2Us competition.

Loreto Kilkenny used a  whole school approach to tackling cyber bullying

Loreto Kilkenny rose to this challenge and were awarded the top prize of a private gig with Hogan. Webwise was most impressed by Loreto Kilkenny’s whole school approach to tackling cyber bullying. Both teachers and students were involved in educating different year groups on the dangers of revealing too much information online and the impact of cyber bullying.

The campaign run in Loreto Kilkenny also placed a strong emphasis on positive messages. Students created a pledge wall in the school, where people made promises to be more responsible in their use of the internet.

A whole school bookmark competition was also held. All students were invited to design a bookmark to illustrate the message of staying safe online. The winning entry was reproduced professionally and each student in the school received the bookmark.

Prize of a Private gig with Hogan on Safer Internet Day 2015

To celebrate the school’s achievement, students from Loreto Kilkenny were invited to showcase their work at the Safer Internet Day 2015 launch event held in Dublin Castle. Then, the following day the real celebrations kicked off when Hogan played a private gig for the students to mark Safer Internet Day.

Congratulations to all involved in the Loreto Kilkenny #Up2Us internet safety campaign and indeed to all groups who entered the competition.
