#Up2Us competition finalists, Derrinturn Foróige Club, decided to reach out to and educate the younger members of their community on cyber bullying. They teamed up with St Conleth’s NS for their Be an Upstander, not a Bystander campaign.
“We decided to bring the anti-cyber bullying campaign to younger members of the community who are often overlooked in this . These students know it’s going on and have heard bits but don’t know what to do .”
Be an Upstander, not a Bystander: we will make sure no one is playing on their own, watch out for bad behaviour and keep the yard a fun place.
“We decided, with the help of the school, to have two days with 5th class to discuss and educate them with role play, games and question and answers, plus some videos taken from YouTube .”
“It was great fun both for the members of the Foroige club, aged between 14 and 15, and the class. The class came up with a great slogan for the school: BE AN UPSTANDER, NOT A BYSTANDER. This means they will make sure no one is playing on their own, watch out for bad behaviour and keep the yard a fun place.”
